United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

With UNDP, the Academy runs the School of Peace and Democracy-Bangsamoro, a short-term course for former MILF combatants, and has held workshops on community resilience, early warning and peace and development planning.

Partners since 2019.

What We Did Together

The Academy and UNDP have worked together on peace, livelihoods and planning in the Bangsamoro.

  • School of Peace and Democracy-Bangsamoro

The Academy runs the course in partnership with UNDP, with funding from the Australian Embassy. Its graduation in December 2025 brought the number of graduates to 523.

  • Courses for the graduates

Graduates took courses on food security through social enterprise, in coffee and water hyacinth production, and on virgin coconut oil production. UNDP then gave 32 graduates coconut production equipment and materials to start their own social enterprise.

  • Human rights and amnesty

After an outcome assessment of the School by the Academy and UNDP, the two ran a training of trainers on community human rights and amnesty awareness raising, in two batches in Davao City, with UNDP's Peacebuilding Team.

  • Community resilience and early warning

The Academy gave technical assistance to a community resilience workshop for employees of the Special Geographic Area Development Authority, and held a two-day early warning and early response workshop with UNDP, supported by the Government of Canada.

  • Peace and development planning

With UNDP's PROSPER Bangsamoro, the Academy facilitated a planning workshop for the officials of the eight municipalities of the Special Geographic Area, a first step toward its development plan for 2025 to 2028.

  • The Academy's strategic planning

In 2019, UNDP Philippines and the Australian Government supported the Academy's environmental scanning, the first phase of its strategic planning, facilitated by the Ateneo de Davao University.
